Ben Bradshaw

The Labour Party is a democratic socialist party. It believes that by the strength of our common endeavour we achieve more than we achieve alone, so as to create for each of us the means to realise our true potential and for all of us a community in which power, wealth and opportunity are in the hands of the many not the few, where the rights we enjoy reflect the duties we owe, and where we live together freely, in a spirit of solidarity, tolerance and respect.

Tories - still the nasty partyThe Observer has exposed secret Tory plans (not included in their manifesto) which will allow nurseries to charge parents of three- and four-year-olds millions of pounds in supplementary fees.  One childrens charity has said the secret Tory plan is a "hugely retrograde step" which would hit the poorest, while another called it a "huge blow to parents".  Under Labour the free entitlement will remain free, with no top-up charges for toddlers.

Prescott in Exeter

John Prescott in ExeterFormer Labour Deputy Leader John Prescott was campaigning with Ben Bradshaw in Exeter on Saturday.

Mr Prescott, who is standing down after 40 years as an MP, said: “there are people who might not have voted for us in 2005 because they thought their vote wasn’t needed.  But now it’s going to go to the wire and we need to get every vote out to ensure Labour keeps delivering for hard-working people and stop the Tories turning the clock back to the 80s, when we saw interest rates of 17%, three million unemployed and the hated poll tax”.     more
