Steve Race has been chosen to take over from Ben Bradshaw at the next general election. He was selected this weekend by Exeter’s Labour Members from a final list of four extremely worthy candidates. Steve has been been part of the Exeter Labour team for fifteen years, campaigning side by side with members, talking to residents, and helping Labour to win elections again and again.

“It is a huge honour to be chosen by Exeter Labour Party members to be their candidate at the next election. Ben will be a hard act to follow but I will do my utmost to fulfil the trust that has been placed in me. I look forward to working with everyone to keep Exeter Labour and build on our city’s success as well as addressing its challenges”.

“Steve will be a great champion for Exeter and ambassador for Labour. He has the experience, judgement & work ethic to be a great MP and make a big contribution to what we hope will be the next Labour Government. We had a fantastic field of candidates and commiserations to those that didn’t make it.”

Ben Bradshaw, Exeter MP

“Steve will be a worthy successor to take on Ben’s legacy. He will be a steady hand as well as bringing new energy, experience and commitment to the role. I know he will make a brilliant ambassador for our city. As Leader of Exeter City Council I am looking forward to working with him when he has been elected as Exeter’s MP.”

Phil Bialyk, Leader of Exeter City Council

“Steve brings with him the skills and experience to be effective representative and advocate for our city. I know he will be an energetic, enthusiastic and capable MP, putting Exeter at the heart of his work. When he wins at the next general election he will make a great addition to our team of elected Labour representatives working for our City and its residents. Ben will be a hard act to follow but I am pleased to say Exeter’s Constituent Labour Party is proud to put Steve Race forward as his successor.”
