At the Annual Meeting of Exeter City Council, Phil Bialyk was confirmed to continue as Leader of the Council, heading a refreshed Labour Executive team focused on delivering for Exeter’s communities during a period of significant change for local government.
Labour remains the largest Party on the council, just two seats short of an overall majority, and will continue providing stable, experienced and community focused leadership for the city.
The renewed Executive will continue Labour’s focus on protecting services, supporting communities and delivering investment across Exeter, building on recent progress including expanded community safety patrols and CCTV coverage, upgraded council housing, investment in community support, and continued action to tackle climate change and reduce carbon emissions across the city.
We have also worked with partners to secure investment in leisure and wellbeing facilities, including improvements at King George V Playing Fields and progress towards the new Wonford Community Wellbeing Centre. Alongside this, Labour remains committed to moving to a new purpose built recycling facility and continuing the retrofitting of council homes to reduce energy use and lower household bills for tenants.
Phil Bialyk, Leader of Exeter City Council, said:
“Labour remains focused on providing stable and experienced leadership for Exeter at an important time for the city. We will continue protecting services, investing in communities and delivering practical improvements that make a real difference to residents.”
“As Exeter moves towards major local government change, it is important the city continues to have a strong voice, stability and continuity during the transition to future unitary council arrangements.”
