Exeter Labour is working together on a national and local level to protect the Royal Albert Memorial Museum (RAMM) – the jewel in Exeter’s cultural crown.
£114k from the Labour Government’s Museum Renewal Fund last autumn complements the recent decision from Labour-led Exeter City Council to provide match funding for a new boiler and cooling system, which is vital for preserving the museum’s artefacts. The £260,000 in match funding was agreed by councillors at an extraordinary council meeting last month and will go towards supporting the replacement of RAMM’s ageing heating and cooling systems and the restoration of the Roman Wall Bridge.
The Labour Government’s Museum Renewal Fund helps local museums to celebrate their local heritage and helps to improve public access to collections, protect community and educational programmes, and help to ensure treasured local and regional museums are fit for the future. The RAMM was announced as one of 75 civic museums in receipt of this fund last October.
Councillor Lucy Findlay, Portfolio Holder for City Centre and Culture said: “Exeter’s Labour administration has yet again demonstrated its commitment and leadership to decarbonisation, and protection of important cultural and social assets. I am so pleased that we gained cross party support for the important decision of funding our RAMM.”
