Your Local Labour Councillor’s hope to be able to keep the Age UK Exeter’s building in Cowick Street (the Old Council Offices)  open for community and local business use after Age UK has decided it must move out.

Old Council Offices / Age UK Building

This historic Cowick Street building, which has been used as a library, council offices and fire station, has for the last 31 years been the home of Age UK Exeter, providing a vital resource for older people both locally and across the city.

The impact of the pandemic has meant that Age UK Exeter have had to close their day services and café, and due to a sharp fall in income have no option but to give up their lease on the property and relocate their staff to their other premises on Mount Pleasant Road. By taking this action and reducing its overhead costs, the charity is protecting its many community services that are still running for the benefit of hundreds of older people in Exeter.

As your City Councillors, we are keen to do all we can to ensure that 137/138 Cowick Street can remain a thriving resource for all the community and are working hard to see how this can be achieved.

If you want to join us on this venture or might be interested in renting part of this building, please do get in touch with Laura at cllr.laura.wright@exeter.gov.uk.
