Pinhoe

Simon Bowkett: Your candidate on 3 May 2012

I’m Simon Bowkett, your local Labour Party Candidate for Pinhoe in Exeter’s 2012 City Council elections. I have lived and worked in the Exeter area for the past 3 years, after coming to the area from Weymouth in Dorset where I have been a borough councillor for the past 8 years.

I currently work as a Business & Services Development Manager for Exeter Council for Voluntary Services, an organisation that helps to nurture, develop and support local charities and community groups. My role is to actively promote and develop volunteering, active citizenship and community initiatives.

I believe a strong sense of community is essential for a healthy, balanced neighbourhood, which is why I am delighted to have been selected to represent Pinhoe. Since coming to Pinhoe, I have been struck by the strong community identity we have here and the level of community activity we have.

I am certain very few people are still fooled by the Conservatives’ “Big Society” rhetoric – even Tory politicians seem desperate to be distanced from the idea! Labour is, and has always been, the party of hard-working families and communities, which is why I am proud to be a Labour activist. I shall be working hard, together with your Labour city councillor Moira MacDonald, your Labour county councillor Saxon Spence, and your Labour MP Ben Bradshaw, to ensure that Pinhoe thrives and develops as a vibrant, safe, and prosperous community for all its residents.

There are lots of ways to engage with my campaign, and let me know what YOU need from a candidate and from your council. Please feel free to contact me at any time. I’d be delighted to hear from you, and to receive your support. I look forward to meeting you very soon.
