On International Women’s Day it feels appropriate to reflect on our fantastic Labour women Councillors here in Exeter.

We have so many great advocates and champions of our communities. They create a huge pool of skills, professional and lived experience, which informs and strengthens our councils.

More than 50% of Labour’s Exeter City Councillors are women. There are thirteen in total, which is almost the same as the total number of men and women Councillors in the opposition.

Seven of the nine Lead Councillors who make up the City Council’s Executive Committee are women along with the two Member Champions.

On Devon County Council five out of the seven Labour Councillors representing Exeter’s communities are women.

Looking forward to the city council election in May we will be proud to present a fantastic range of candidates.

Exeter Labour are still able to champion equality with more than half the Labour candidates being women.
